The region’s most prestigious bicycle race – the Chorley Grand Prix – is almost here. The route includes Southport Road so the race passes right outside our front door! To show our support we have a decorated bicycle which will be on show outside the green front doors of Westwood.
The decorations have been made by staff, friends, relatives and residents with our volunteer Susan adding the finishing touches last week. The bike will be outside Westwood from Friday 6th April, please look out for it as you pass by!

We spent a wonderful afternoon with a group of children from Pipers Nursery school. They joined us for a Teddy Bears’ picnic and, after exploring the garden, entertained us with songs and nursery rhymes.
The children were so well behaved and literally brought the sunshine with them into Westwood. We are already looking forward to their next visit!

We had a lovely Easter celebration this afternoon and enjoyed spending time with friends and family. We’d like to thank volunteer Ann for judging the Easter bonnet competition, the winner was resident Emily – a very deserving winner.
Lots of chocolate cake and tea was consumed and we had many happy winners in the Easter raffle, which raised over £180 for our Activities fund.
We hope you enjoy our photos.

Recently we have been getting to grips with technology at Westwood and, as well as our website and Facebook page, we are now registered on Carehome.co.uk (regarded as the ‘trip advisor’ of the Care world).
We would be most grateful if any of our friends are able to leave a review on the service we provide. With many thanks.

Westwood resident Hilda recently celebrated a very special birthday.
This lovely lady is now 103 years young and, we think you’ll agree, looking very well on it. Happy Birthday Hilda from all at Westwood!

We enjoyed our Valentine’s tea party this week, especially sampling all the cakes! Thank you to everyone who attended and also those who supported our raffle. Approximately £100 was raised for the Residents Activity Fund.
Photos show our judge Julia Bass with first place winners in the baking competition – Barbara and Janine, and in the second photo staff member Emma who won second prize. Third place went to staff member Sara and son Aaron. Well done everyone who took part!

We recently celebrated Australia week at Westwood. This had been prompted by a resident expressing a wish to visit Australia and, while not possible for them at the moment, we thought we would bring a taste of Australia to Westwood.
We were lucky to have so many items donated for our display with the most interesting item being a didgeridoo, needless to say not many of us could hold a tune on it! We spent time looking at the memorabilia with one resident recalling holiday trips to Australia which prompted much discussion. Lamington cakes were also sampled and we listened to native aboriginal music as well as songs from well known modern day Australian musicians. A ‘bonzer’ time was had by all.

We had a lovely canine visitor today, a blue Merle Collie by the name of Star, many thanks to Ann for bringing her in to see us.
We hope Star and Ann will become regular visitors to Westwood.

2017 has certainly been a busy year at Westwood!
Some of the highlights that immediately spring to mind include decorating a bike for display during the Chorley Grand Prix, being Gold Award winners for our community garden display at the Chorley flower show and the opening of our refurbished garden room. Of course there have also been many events for our staff too – Kim and Tom welcomed new baby Scarlett in June and Julie and Michael married at Gretna Green in August.
As the year comes to a close we send thanks to all of you who have supported our events and activities at Westwood and we look forward to your continued support in the New Year. We send you all best wishes for a healthy and happy 2018.
